welcome
Q: What if I can't make the Wednesday night meetings?
A: That is fine. Meeting minutes will be posted online, so you can stay in the loop. Also, IYS conducts some of its voting online to ensure everyone has a chance to be heard.
Q: I don't have a lot of money to contribute. Can I still help?
A: Yes! In Your Shoes is always looking for new ideas and new ways we can help Westborough residents. Also, you can help serve meals or bake for events.
Q: Why does it cost $50 to be a Voting Member?
A: When In Your Shoes was founded they started with zero funds. The founders decided to ask for a $100 contribution to ensure there would be some funding available -- to get the organization off the ground, if you will. After the organization raised sizable funding from the annual Polar Plunge, the organization voted to reduce the Voting Member contribution to $50. This amount ensures IYS of a small stream of income should a major fundraiser not occur in any given year.
Q: How did the Polar Plunge start? What is it?
One of our voting members suggested the Polar Plunge as a fundraiser. IYS tried it and it was a great success, raising over $10,000 each year. IYS has divided the profits each year 50/50 with several other service-oriented town organizations. Please refer to our Polar Plunge FAQ document for in-depth information on this fundraiser.
Q: What is the Guiding Circle?
A: The In Your Shoes Guiding Circle is the IYS governing board, which consists of two co-presidents, a vice president, a secretary and a treasurer.
Q: When is your fiscal year?
A: The In Your Shoes fiscal year is September 1 through August 31.
Q: Is In Your Shoes a nonprofit organization?
A: Yes. In Your Shoes is organized exclusively for charitable purposes under section 501© (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
